Critique this Logo design please...

(But I'm a boy and my spidey sense is not tuned to colors...)

She will be adding some pictures so that will fill up some of that white space.

The colors are ok to me, but I think the logo area is either too large or too small depending on what you want to achieve.

At present, I see half of some words underneath the logo, so I know there is something there and that I have to scroll to see it, but I don't know if it is interesting to me and whether to click away or scroll down.

I don't know if you are trying to have just the logo above the fold. If so, make it a bit larger still.

If you want to lead-in text to draw the visitor into the rest of the blog, then maybe make the logo smaller.

Hope you understand what I am saying.

It seems that the prime 'real estate' for this website is wasted on blank (and uninviting) space.

If you check out the google heat-map for where eyes track on a web page then it becomes obvious that there is nothing to capture the interest where the visitor first looks.

That usually means they are going to click away before getting an opportunity to read the content.

An interesting concept for a site.  Best wishes for your success.

Well, she's an author with a published book and wanted this blog
to connect with her audience. I don't think she intends it as an
Adsense site.

Considering too, that visitor base will likely be mostly female,
and thus far the feedback has been from the male perspective...

... it may be best that I hold off suggesting a different theme until
the ladies have piped in with their thoughts. And, like I mentioned
in a previous post, there will be photos and other content added
which will fill up a lot of that space

That really helped.  Now the purple of the legend succeeds in drawing the eye to the book-covers.  And my comment was not to suggest a different them, this one looks nice with the smaller header, it was just to second Henley's idea.

Of course, I didn't see it when you originally posted it and before the guys had their say, but from what I see now, I'll add that to me the colors are really fine.  (Actually, I love purples--and the aqua/green shades together.) However, the book cover (with her photo) seems a tad bit bright.

Also, although you didn't ask about it, I'd consider moving the logo to either the left or to the right of the page and then adding something in the space that results. Maybe her photo. Because as Padre says, there is quite a bit of white space there.

Can I join in?

OK - considering the title of the site 'Your Passion' - it just doesn't come across as 'passionate' if you see what I mean. The colors are nice and calming which seems to be at odds with the title. I would expect 'hot', 'bright' colors to inflame the senses! Whizzes, Bangs! Explosions of desire. Think flamenco dancers all fiery gestures, determined looks and actions. (BTW why do flamenco dancers always seem to be frowning? If a woman frowns and waggles her hips and clicks her fingers at me I'd be well confused!)

This site would best be called - 'Your Oasis' or 'A Pool Of Calm' or even 'Log On, Log In and Drop Off'

There's no zing to it, no citrusy flavor, no bite.

Her book is titled "Pursue Your Passion" - this gives the impression of hunting, sighting and chasing it down resulting in movement, excitement, dread, anxiety, happiness, joy, and satisfaction - however, the titles down the left hand side: meditation, healing, reflections, love are cool, calming, relaxing  titles.

All in all it's a bit of a dichotomy of a site. Actually - it isn't, I've just looked up 'dichotomy' and it isn't what the site is (Dang - I was hoping to end on a bombshell!)

So, sadly it's down to a simple 'Out of 10' scale

Content: 10/10 - can't fault it - she writes well
Layout: 6/10 - could do better - more images with each title on the main page for example
Site: 3/10 - sorry, just doesn't work for me
