Henesis is a nice theme, very adaptable, so I'm glad you discovered how to set the site up for your preferences. These new high-powered themes have so much capability, it take a while to learn them.

I've been using Flexsqueeze, but am considering purchasing OptimizePress. Not that Flexsqueeze is bad, but I don't want to leave the footprint of a common theme throughout my network.

You'll like WP SEO, although like the theme, it's got a ton of  options.

I have heard so many stories like your "expert" that it makes me almost angry. One should know a program or theme or platform inside out before selling services, or in your case, doing it free and bunging the whole thing up!

It's amazing if they get any takers on such an offer.  WP is very new to me but it was easy to tell just how badly they did their job . . .
  • over a dozen plugins (mostly useless ones) but only 3 active (one was a mysterious plugin with their name on it that said it was to "simplify the interface" but made no noticeable difference when deactivated)
  • no seo (not even alt text on the photos)
And it would be easy to continue listing what wasn't there . . . but after a total overhaul that was equal to the same amount of work it would have taken to set-up the site from scratch the website is coming along nicely.

Actually a pretty good experience after the initial letdown . . . the opportunity sort of catapulted me into the world of WP.  It might have been months before the workload allowed time to get up to speed on the intricacies.

The entire WP set-up is not very intuitive and to accomplish anything I do it wrong and have to redo (often more than once) which creates an irritation level that decreases with familiarity. Hope it's worth the effort, there is another sitebuilder that is so easy to use it's fun. And very versatile. But the downside is that they get 50% of any adsense income (ouch).

Speaking of the theme, there is a Genesis favicon on the website and I can't figure out how to replace it with my own.  Is that possible or does it come with the theme?

What's the problem with a common WP theme running throughout your websites? Is it a difficulty with search engines or just a matter of taste?

What's the problem with a common WP theme running throughout your websites? Is it a difficulty with search engines or just a matter of taste?

Google looks for "footprints" on a site it's search for duplicate content, such as a common theme, common footers, common cloaking terms, etc., especially now, to eliminate affiliate sites with "thin" content, that is, duplicate content or lack of pages/posts that do not provide a relevant experience to visitors.

Thin websites get de-indexed, which means no one can find your site.

The solution is to post some 100% unique content, especially when starting a new site. Additional content, if derived from PLR, feeds, scrapes, etc., must be "spun" to 50-75% uniqueness, depending how well onsite SEO is done. Better SEO means you can use a lesser degree of uniqueness.

This is very important in light of Google's new algorithm designed to prioritize "real" content sites in it's results page, and eliminate pure affiliate sites, squeeze pages, and "content farms". However, the news is full of Google's latest moves just Google it!

If you build quality, content and user-oriented sites, no worries.

Mike Johnson at Auto Blog Blueprint is right on top of this with an excellent process for putting up sites that are attractive to Google, yet can be run on automatic even existing sites and those like the Profit Maker sites here at RRW. http://www.autoblogblueprint.com (not an affiliate link).

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the definition.  Hadn't heard the term and was worried for a second because I use a favorite theme on another sitebuilder for all my set-ups . . . it's clean lines deliver material in an easy to navigate way & the blog can be added with a click . . . and was afraid it might need to be altered for arbitrary reasons.

No worry though, all the material on all my sights is hand written by me or commissioned from others and thoroughly redone.

I just need to figure out which WP folder holds the images for the carousel . . .

Depends on how your Wordpress Media settings are...

A default install creates folders for uploads (like media) by year/month. Very organized, but hard to find things a month or more later. You can change that so that WP unloads everything into the "uploads" folder, where the files are easy to find. If you used the Media Uploaded, that's probably where the images are, if they're locally hosted. Unless, of course, the carosel is pulling the images from another site.

Funny how it can be so organized that things are hard to find . . . sort of a situational oxymoron.
