Here goes

Ok, here is my website.  I actually just purchased www.virtualassistantsvc.com and will be building a whole new website in the next few days once my domain transfer is complete. This is the first site I have ever built.  I cheated and purchased my theme from Elegant themes.  I am actually very happy with them. They have a support forum and for $40.00, I received access to over 80 themes.  It seemed smarter to me than buying one theme.  I know someday I may have to buy some themes to get a developers license if I want to build sites for others but that is down the road.

When I bought my site, I did not take keywords into consideration. I just liked the sound of the name of the business.  Now that I have learned a little bit, I want to use keywords in the title.  I think the .com is just better, too.

I think my site doesn't look "grown up" enough or "professional" enough but I plan to fix that on my next build.  I think all in all, for a first site build, I didn't do half bad.   :nail:

All feedback is greatly appreciated! :)

P.S. Is anyone else addicted to WP plugins? I can't stop going through all of them. Its way to much fun!   :toothy12:

Hi Barbara

For your first ever site I think it was a very good job.

The 2 immediate things I have concerns about (these are quite nit-picky points) are:

1. Your image: It looks squashed and blurred - possibly as a side-effect of trying to make it into a certain size. For your next website I'd suggest trying to get a clearer image.

2. The font: It's a bit unreadable to be honest - possibly due to it being a font I've not seen used before

and, as a final point

On the slider imagery the titles get cut off - it might be better to create shorter titles if you want the same effect on your new website.

Hope those points help

Hi Barbara - Congratulations on getting your site up and running. To me, it does seem more like a "hobby" site than a business site. I agree with Dom (who's one of the best feedback producers here) that the font is a problem. Hard to read and not business like.

Stil...hey, you're off and running. Congrats. Please keep us in the loop as to how your are doing. - Magicman

Hi Barbara -

Your site virtualassistantsvc is nice, but it's a little plain.  In fact, it looks just like one of mine. (Lol, I know it's just the basic WP theme.) I don't know where you are on filling it in, but I recommend you put in some security plug-ins right away, in case you get called away to do something else. (Don't ask me how I know about that  ;;:B)

The site before that looks very nice, I think.  I rather like the font, but I can see where it might not seem quite as professional as some other, more basic ones.  It wouldn't discourage me from hiring you if I needed VA services, though.  Also, some people for whom English is not a first language might find a more basic font easier to read.  As a VA, you may find a considerable market in working with people who are conducting business in English but who don't have a lot of confidence in their own command of the language.  As you work your way through the internet marketing world, you'll see many instances of people who probably could have used a VA to help refine their materials before final release.

Another thing - there are a number of premium themes in the membership area.  Some are pretty easy to use, some aren't.

As for the plugin issue: I am absolutely addicted!  In fact, I have to allow a certain amount of time each day just to play around with WP and plugins, or I'll end up going down a Wordpress rabbit hole.  Not the worst thing, I know, but it sure is easy to lose a lot of time that way.  It keeps me out of the shoe stores!

Hello Everyone,

Thanks again for giving me your feedback.  Yes, my first site isn't business like enough.  My 2nd site, I haven't even messed with yet. I've been sick the last 2 days.  I'm going to try to get it up and running tonight if I'm feeling better. I haven't used any security plugins yet, but I know I need to. I will check those out this evening, too.   Back to the drawing board. LoL

Hi Barbara,

I agree with Dom, etc that the font you used is hard to read unless one enlarges the text. I also find the "what I do" page is hard to follow - have to scroll up to see the details for your lower menu (left) items..

just my 2 cents
