Sales page suggestions needed please
« on: October 02, 2012, 11:46:04 AM »
I've got some basic copy going and I'll be adding screen shots of the videos as well.

1. Is the copy OK?

2. Is the template OK?

3. If you were a potential customer of this course, what would I need to add to seal the deal for you?

Note: The site may be unavailable on and off for a day or so since the domain is brand new. Please try again if you don't get through the first time. :-)

Wordress Training A to Z

Thanks!
~Karen

~Karen,

I'm thinking you might want to check your link, as it's not working at all.

You have a " before the http, and you need a : after the http--then it will work.

Currently it is:  "http//wptrainingaz.com

OK, need some help here. Eventually I'll have a graphic designer make a really nice design for this but for now, I have to make my own.

First off, if you would, please visit the site and give me your impression of the sales copy. (I will be adding thumbnails of the videos along the left next to the listings).

Second, is the overall look ok?

Third, which color is more appealing? Samples are below.

I appreciate your help because this MUST be a winner.
A portion of the proceeds will be going toward helping Mark & Brenda Butts (eagles12) get to the Philippines.

Thanks!
~Karen

sale copy is a bit lacking in the "sales" department IMO... seems to be missing the Karenisms and sense of humor that I associate with your stuff... maybe I am too critical

overall look ok... not sure what your conversion rate would be using copy as written... maybe split test with another format.

My color choice would be #2

Have a great one

Hi John,

I don't think you're being too critical, that's the kind of feedback I need.

Great idea. Put some work into the existing copy to see if I can pack some punch into it, then write a completely different sales letter in my relaxed voice aka Karenisms.

Thank you for taking the time to do this!

Hi Karen -  Yep, sales copy can be better based on your great experience. I like the first example color-wise.

Take a look at these efforts and see if either might be helpful or need modification -

Cool MM! You did a great job on those but since the logo is trademarked it can't be used for creating other logos or part of a site design.

I'm thinking of just modifying the provided sales copy. After all, it was written by pros.

Thanks!
~Karen

I looked here http://drupal.org/licensing/faq/ and and found this - "5: What is the license for content on Drupal.org?

All content on the Drupal.org itself is copyrighted by its original contributors, and is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license 2.0. Sample code is also available under the GPL version 2 or later.

-----------------------------------------------------
Here http://wordpress.org/about/license/, I found this...

The license under which the WordPress software is released is the GPLv2 (or later) from the Free Software Foundation. A copy of the license is included with every copy of WordPress, but you can also read the text of the license here.

Part of this license outlines requirements for derivative works, such as plugins or themes. Derivatives of WordPress code inherit the GPL license. Drupal, which has the same GPL license as WordPress, has an excellent page on licensing as it applies to themes and modules (their word for plugins).

There is some legal grey area regarding what is considered a derivative work, but we feel strongly that plugins and themes are derivative work and thus inherit the GPL license. If you disagree, you might want to consider a non-GPL platform such as Serendipity (BSD license) or Habari (Apache license) instead.

Seems like this would apply to a derivative product such as a training course based on the product itself.

If you want, I can run this by my attorney group on Monday and get clarification. - MM

Hi MM,

As for the platform and derivative works, they fall under the GPL but the name and logo are trademarked. They don't mind if someone creates or distributes a training course because that, in essence, is beneficial to community. They just don't allow the trademarked name WordPress used within a base domain name nor the logo to be part of a derivative work. That doesn't mean it can't be displayed, it's use however is restricted somewhat.

Thanks!
