This was a nice post. I enjoyed it. It also changed my perspective on how I should see myself as an employee or as a freelancer.

Instead of taking rejection personally, I should see it as an opportunity to increase my performance and my behavior.

To bad life involve a certain level of pretending to be someone we are not just to be able to fit in.

As an employee I always hated the idea to be reduced to a provider of services where I had to deliver more for the same amount of low money while the guys at the top would make more money out of my hard work. If for any reason I would diminish in productivity (like because of depression or loneliness or whatever emotional state), my job could be on the line.

As people, we are only worth the benefit we provide to the boss.

Sucking up to clients also fell on my nerves a lot. I honestly felt like a whore. Especially when I was dealing with jerks or imbeciles.

I never considered myself a good employee after I realized I did not count at all in the eyes the bosses I had. I was doing the job but they expected more for the same very low pay.

As a freelance guy who did hire other people I do understand the perspective from the other side. To get the best bang for my buck.

This post made me remember why I am a freelance. I can choose my clients. If they treat me like crap because cheaper freelance can be found, I can simply say no to them and move on.

I prefer to be poor or homeless than to be stripped of all dignity. Hopefully I will make it online. Times are difficult.

Thanks for the post. I have a lot of think. I will take the angle of performance and behavior for my freelance stuff.

As a freelance I have a new boss (client) with my jobs. This will help my mindset.

Edited: because I forgot a few words here and there.

Hey seeger - thanks for the thoughtful and insightful post --- and for taking the time to read and think about my content. I deeply appreciate it.

I've spent practically all my life pleasing clients and I'm very, very good at it...all while maintaining my personal ethics and character. That would explain why I've also been fired 5 times in my career. Two of those included personal trials and lawsuits in which I was the defendant.

So far, I'm one in the wind column and one in the draw category. Although I don't recommend that kind of a career path, I never lost a case.

As a consultant/project manager, I once charged a client thousands of dollars for scope creep. He didn't like it much, but he paid. BTW, the project was wildly successful for the client and maybe even saved them lots of heartache and millions of dollars. In the end, all were happy and all was forgiven.

My most spectacular ethical and legal "escape" was during my time as a business analyst and new business development generator for a slew of companies owned by one entity. During my employment, I saw a few shady things going on which I avoided and in which I never participated. Guess that's why I'm walking around free and the CEO/owner of the company is servicing a 20 year term in a federal pen for payroll tax fraud - the largest payroll fraud in US history.

So, it can be a jungle out there. However, one of my most important skills was the productive hiring and firing of talented individuals. It was usually done without causing any ripples in the organization life. As one of my survivors at a company once said, "He makes people go away and they're never upset!"

One of my proudest accomplishments! Stay strong and keep trucking. And for goodness sake, never stop marketing! Best - MM

Thank you very much for the reply.

I appreciate it.

I read again your post and I will give you some pointers.

When people are tired or are in in a hurry or a just lazy, they just glance at the text or they just skim the text. What you should do is make bold the sentences or the words that basically grasp the very essence of what you are saying. If you can find a sentence or words that sum up our thoughts about a paragraph, make that sentence or words t bold.

For instance ...

In every interaction during (and after) the interview, I made it clear that these requirements were important. I would review my requirements against the resume or application of the prospective employees with them. I explained that - for the going price of X - I wanted to hire somebody who came as close as possible to my written guidelines. I told everyone I was looking for the best bang for my buck. The potential employees were welcome to look at the checklist, but couldn't take it with them.

---------> the most important sentence in that paragraph is: In every interaction during (and after) the interview, I made it clear that these requirements were important.

If you can do that in a way that someone who just read the bold words get the sum up version of your post, it will be even better. The goal is that if someone just read the bold sentences or the bold words, that person see what you are trying to say. If it is enticing enough, then that person will end up reading your content entirely.

It acts as a sort of a header and also draws the eyes to what you are trying to say. People have a tendency to skim especially the young adults of this generation.

In a odd way, it will also give the impression there is more content because there is more "sections" because there is more bold text that kind of look like a header.

Design can also affect how long people stay. What you should do is have a traffic analytic and look how long people stay. Then a month later change a few things in the design, such as the size of the font or color of parts of the site and look how long they stay. If they stay longer it means you get more attention.

---- comment section is a must --------

A lot of people, including me like to read comments about what is posted. Sometimes you can start a conversation with your readers. It increase your ranking and also increase your following because people will return to see what you said and what other people said. Best part, is that you can do a follow up on your content to address the issues, the questions or the ideas that are in the post.

---- color of the font and color of the links ------

Also if the font was a bit darker it would be easier to read. To give more life to the text, you can color some bold words or sentence.

Check this out: ----> http://www.cnet.com/news/apple-watch-apps-the-first-wave/

Some links are maroon (red brown). They look nice and it draws the eyes so easily. It also suprise the audience. Who color the links after all?

On this I am going to bed.

Goodnight.

Hey Veena,

It's been a while. Welcome back.

Veena - the best answer to your question is that everything on my site www.edgarallenmarketing.com is original content unless credited - I think the "Content Matrix" image is one that is not mine but is used with permission and accreditation.

Wanted to follow up on Seeger's helpful comments above.

I've thought about his "Comments" section suggestion and finally figured a way to add that to my newest site.

It was - IMHO - a fantastic idea and I'm glad I could finally add it. I'm going to retrofit my older site with comment sections, too.

Suggestions from this membership are always helpful and I'm grateful for each one of them! Thank you. -- MM
