Thank you very much for the reply.
I appreciate it.
I read again your post and I will give you some pointers.
When people are tired or are in in a hurry or a just lazy, they just glance at the text or they just skim the text. What you should do is make bold the sentences or the words that basically grasp the very essence of what you are saying. If you can find a sentence or words that sum up our thoughts about a paragraph, make that sentence or words t bold.
For instance ...
In every interaction during (and after) the interview, I made it clear that these requirements were important. I would review my requirements against the resume or application of the prospective employees with them. I explained that - for the going price of X - I wanted to hire somebody who came as close as possible to my written guidelines. I told everyone I was looking for the best bang for my buck. The potential employees were welcome to look at the checklist, but couldn't take it with them.
---------> the most important sentence in that paragraph is: In every interaction during (and after) the interview, I made it clear that these requirements were important.
If you can do that in a way that someone who just read the bold words get the sum up version of your post, it will be even better. The goal is that if someone just read the bold sentences or the bold words, that person see what you are trying to say. If it is enticing enough, then that person will end up reading your content entirely.
It acts as a sort of a header and also draws the eyes to what you are trying to say. People have a tendency to skim especially the young adults of this generation.
In a odd way, it will also give the impression there is more content because there is more "sections" because there is more bold text that kind of look like a header.
Design can also affect how long people stay. What you should do is have a traffic analytic and look how long people stay. Then a month later change a few things in the design, such as the size of the font or color of parts of the site and look how long they stay. If they stay longer it means you get more attention.
---- comment section is a must --------
A lot of people, including me like to read comments about what is posted. Sometimes you can start a conversation with your readers. It increase your ranking and also increase your following because people will return to see what you said and what other people said. Best part, is that you can do a follow up on your content to address the issues, the questions or the ideas that are in the post.
---- color of the font and color of the links ------
Also if the font was a bit darker it would be easier to read. To give more life to the text, you can color some bold words or sentence.

On this I am going to bed.
Goodnight.
