At the risk of appearing to be a proverbial "wet blanket," I have to question the use of these automatic content generators. I would hate to search for something and be taken to a page filled with auto-content. I'd be so upset. And I can't imagine that Google would go along with it either.

Now, perhaps I'm not understanding how these plugins work. I can see using the Bible verse one, but not as the sole content. Are there plugins that can be used in conjunction with actual content?

Hi Deb,

I know of two softwares that can be used with actual content: Auto Blog Feeder and Blog Auto Poster.

Auto Blog Feeder is a WordPress plugin, extremely easy to install and use. All you do is upload your pre-written articles or posts in .txt file format and program them to be posted to your blog as you wish. It's a 3-mouse-click set up. You can read a review on my Blog, just click on my signature.

Blog Auto Poster is a more sophisticated option. Must be installed on your webserver, requires mySQL database and cron job set up. But has many more features than Auto Blog Feeder: posts to Wordpress, Blogger, LiveJournal, Movable Type, etc, does multi-category posting, imports and exports articles, manages post settings.

Thank you for the information on these two plugins. I also appreciate the review on your blog that you pointed me to.

I guess the reason that autoblog posting as the sole content of a site bugs me so much is because I consider the snippets from MY blog that land on someone else's page, thereby creating a trackback, to be comment spam if not used properly.

I'm leery about approving such trackback comments because I think Google considers them to be spam, too. I've read websites that have such thin content that you can practically see through it! LOL

Deb, this isn't the case with Auto Blog Feeder or Blog Auto Poster, they aren't RSS feeds or trackbacks. You still have to write (or outsource) your content. Now let's suppose you write 20 articles you want posted to your Blog. All you do is upload them in .txt format to a autoblogfeeder/articles sub-folder, program them to be published at, say, a 72-hour interval. Auto Blog Feeder will do the rest and you'll have fresh - and unique - content posted to your blog for the next two months. What this software does is free you from having to post to your Blog day in and day out.

I've been using Auto Blog Feeder for a month now and it's working like a clock.

But I can do that with my WordPress blog without using a program. I just create posts and schedule them. I can even decide what hour and minute to publish them. Don't all blog content managers do this?

Deb,

There is a difference:

With the Wordpress content manager you still have to write (or paste) each article on the post box and then establish when you want it published.
Now imagine all the time it takes to paste, say, 20 articles on the post box, program the date you want them posted and save it.

With Auto Blog Feeder all you do is upload 10/20/50 articles in txt format, set up the intervals you want them published and that's it. The
software does all the work.

Thanks for the warning superman.

Not too sure how this plug in works but I would expect quite a lot for $77. :(

Is there a good practice limit to the number of plug ins you can use on a wp-blog without affecting performance?

Hi Over59,

Welcome to the forum!

I have several blogs that have quite a few plug ins and they work just fine. Just make sure your version of WP & all your plugins are up to date as well. You may run into some compatibility issues so you might want to activate just one plugin at a time.

Hope that helps,
Mark
