4 Simple Steps to Online Business Success

I've been "working" online for over 10 years and in that time I've seen so many people struggle and I've seen so many people give up and go back to their day jobs. And I can tell you, that's no fun. I enjoy working online and would DREAD going back to being under the thumb of a boss.

The thing is it doesn't have to be that way. Following a few core principles, I believe that most any one can create a full time income (or better) on the net. It is truly a level playing field online for business owners big and small.

Can't say it's been all roses and lollipops in my internet marketing career, but my income has been much better than any job would pay and I work when I want.

So, let's get to the ways you can improve your chance of success when it comes to running your own business in the internet.


This has to be the biggest problem. Far too many people jump from one shiny object to another and usually they don't get anything "finished". I can tell you for fact that unfinished projects don't make you anything. Most people start out with the best intentions, working a proven plan, then inevitably they run across a new idea that looks even better, so they jump to the new ship, it turns into a cycle, time and time again. The only way to success is getting one project finished,  up running, and promoting it. Only then should you move on to a new one.


With anything in life, your success or failure often depends on what you believe. Think you can't do something and you likely won't. Think you can and you will. I know it sounds simplistic and it sounds like common sense, but I can tell you that I've proven this "theory" many times over. It's worked for me every single time. You could also call it the Law of Attraction, or creating Abundance.

Multiple Streams of Income

I'm guilt of this one, more than I care to admit. I've built up one business model and worked solely on that one project, usually one website. Problem is, when something happened to it, such as losing search engine traffic, there went all my sales and more importantly, there went all my income. It's happened over night and it can REALLY bum you out.

The take away is to have as many different income streams coming in to your business as possible. That way, if something should have to one of them, you still have money coming in. You still have an income. Losing one stream won't hurt as much.

Multiple Streams of traffic

This one follows through from the previous one and it's probably even more important because sales and income comes from traffic. No visitors or buying, no money. I can tell you from painful experience that you can NOT rely on one main traffic source. Well, you can, but if you do, there's a good chance it's going to come back to bite you in the you know what.

Reason for this is because traffic sources such as search engines are not under your control. They could, and often do change the rules to the game and your left holding an empty bag of nothing. Counting on single sources of traffic is not the way to build a reliable steady business.

From the very beginning you should be building multiple streams of traffic. They can and should include some of the following: Article marketing, forum marketing, SEO, viral traffic and most importantly, social media marketing traffic.

Just like with the multiple streams of income, when you have many traffic sources, if you lose one, it won't hurt so much.
