Sorry I've Been Absent A Bit
« on: June 13, 2010, 11:13:46 PM »
On 23 May, I had the unfortunate luck to be in an elevator in my building that took a free-fall the last 6-7 feet from the basement and crashed at the bottom. After an hour and 15 minutes lying on the floor and listening to the Fire Department and EMTs try to get the door open for 25 minutes, I was transported to the hospital.

Of course, I was blessed it didn't fall further and that I was the only one one it. Also fortunate that any one of the very elderly residents wasn't on it - probably would have seriously injured them.

That said, the back spasms, neck pain and headaches have slowed all my efforts and I haven't been able to do as much as I want or am accustomed to. The everyday pain slows me down and saps my energy. Of course, heath care and litigation being what it is in the US, it could be a year or two before the responsible party provides any help.

I miss having more of a presence now and try to get in here as much as possible. I'll work to get completely back on my feet and back here in strong form. Just wanted to give you all an update. - Magicman

Hi MM,

Hope you get well soon. You were very lucky that it didn't fall from a greater height. My father in law, who died before I met my wife was crushed by a lift. He wa doing maintenance work. The person who was supposed to be a look out to stop people using the lift decided to go and swot for some exam leaving nobody as lookout. A doctor then (it was in a hospital this happened) to use the lift having no idea that the lift was being maintained used it and crushed my father in law. He survived but died a few years later, they reckon brought on by the injuries. They never got a single penny from the Health Board, that's another story.

Best wishes MM and a speedy recovery, look forward to your posts very soon.

Regards

Donald

Edgar,

It's so good to hear from you and I thank God that although you
did suffer injury, you are still with us! We miss you but it's understandable
that you need to rest and recover.

The fact that you express concern and gratitude that no one else, especially
your elderly neighbors suffered as you are, says a lot about you. You're a
rare and unselfish man and I'm proud to have you as a fellow member
and a friend.

I hope that you receive every penny of compensation you deserve
and that you recover as completely and speedily as is possible.

~Karen

Oh man, Edgar.

I'm so sorry to learn about the reason for your absence.

I knew you hadn't been around but yow! Since we do have other things in our lives, I just figured it had something to do with other commitments, etc.

I'm glad you weren't hurt worse, although it seems what happened was bad enough. And a concern you'll have for some time to come.

Hoping and praying your recovery is soon, and I look forward to seeing you back as you are able.

Karen

MagicMan,

You are an angel we need in our lives.

Take care of yourself and DON'T hurry the settlement stuff. Make sure that you are as well as you are going to be, before you worry overly about the money.
