Though this is an old post. Think you mean SSL for your site? And ranking in Google?

Unless it has changed recently I have not seen SSL make a difference in ranking. They kept talking about influencing ranks, but didn't make a difference with me. Course there are always people who don't know, talking like they do, or just repeating what the last jughead said. The SSL myths :)

Also think it is another G scare to get people to do some thing.

I have run with one for years, then stopped for a while, not difference either way. Sure not going to boost you to the top if you get one.

I have one these days just for my customers piece of mind. Plus, most browsers give a warning now, don't want to lose sales because people get scared off by the browser. "Oh no, bad place, you don't want to go there". And I have one just in case it has any impact on ranks.

Just my long winded opinion.

Funny though, been seeing IM products lately, about scaring local businesses into getting SSL.

While back I received an email from my host saying they were installing free SSL. Come to find out it was only for my cpanel. Good thing, just not for my site.

I have yet to see hosts offer free SSL. That or I don't get around :)

You don't get around, I have a host that includes it with my $1 a month account. Go figure.
