Mark,

This is a thorough, ultra-comprehensive article on a topic I've just gotten interested in. Couldn't be better timing for me. Thanks for going that extra mile or more to keep us informed, to guide us by the hand, and to make certain we have the tools we need to succeed.

Thank you so much!

Does anyone have any success stories? Has anyone tried this?

Brian,

I don't  have any success stories.  :''(

But, I have sort of tried it.  Meaning, I have done some of the steps...well, I've gotten as far as finding the keywords.

Knowing me, though, I'm not so sure I'd want to end up selling/flipping a site after I've got it ready.  But that's another issue.

I imagine somewhere someone has made it work. And I will still keep it handy.

No success with flipping.

The reason, I've not tried it yet.

Present Website Flipping Market

I get the impression that the market isn't great right now for site flippers, unless you really know what you're doing.

PMC Site?

Has anyone tried flipping one of the PMC sites we get here at RRW? I suppose you could register a domain, do some tweaks, freshen up the content, and then list it on SitePoint??? Anyone tried it? Think it would work?

Brian

According to the license, you can't sell the PMC sites

Missed that, until recently. I hadn't really used the PMC sites yet. Finally unzipped them and read through the license and instructions.

I guess we can still expand on them, and then link to other sites we create - and then sell those other sites.

This is one of the best articles I have read - and that includes paid ones - on any subject.

Sorry to be a tad late with my comment, I see the post is 2008 but never mind, the info will be just as good now as it was then so thank you for it. I like the step by step which is unusual in such length in a forum but is very encouraging for such as me, a newbie to domain flipping.
Thanks again, I will re read and learn.

Suppose you make the site profitable before flipping.  That means you probably have an opt-in and a mailing list.

Do you sell the list with the site?

On first thought it seems obvious that the list would go with the site but what about the privacy policy that says you won't sell the list.  Or does that mean the site will never sell the list?

If it's a double opt-in at somewhere like Aweber, it's very hard to transfer the list without getting all the subscribers to re-optin - and if you try t get them to re-optin very few will actually do it, so you'll lose most of the list.

Padre

I would say that you sell the mechanism of getting the list - i.e. the ethical 'bribe' and even the autoresponder series but don't sell the names.

Thanks guys,

So basically the list is not an asset since you can't transfer it and couldn't really market to it after you are no longer connected to the site where the names were collected.

It sounds like it would not be worth establishing the list in the first place since you would be out the cost of the autoresponder which would lower your profit without adding value.
