Perhaps they don't have them any more, but it used to be in some parts of the country (at least where I live--Iowa), when new people/families moved into a town a "welcome wagon" (welcoming committee, welcoming group, one or two representatives) would get the family information from the Chamber of Commerce and then make it a point to go to the new family's home. To "welcome them to the town" and give them a "gift basket" full of things about the town and nearby area. Such as names of physicians, grocery stores, churches, restaurants, modes of transportation, schools, coupons, etc.
In short they'd "welcome" them to the "community". To me, that's what I see you've been doing--although without the basket, of course. :) You've taken the time to stop by the posts of the new posters and say "hello."
And I think that's a very nice thing to do.
