Folders! That's what they are called..could I remember that yesterday?  ;;:B

I agree in that folders almost 'look' better in that you can see the breadcrumb trail from main domain to posting level

But I think I'll go with the sub-domain route..because it 'appears' to be an easier option for my non-techy brain.

Thx one and all for your help gratefully received as always.

Kindest

Hi Dom,

Actually, you would only have to register the domain "'fitnessforever.com" ... not the subdomain "vitamins". You would then add "vitamins" through your cpanel as noted above. That would give you vitamins.fitnessforever.com

Mark

This is great info!!!!  Until now, I've just been adding pages to my main directory, like...

http://www.ChristianMarriageHelper.com/stressrelief.html

Yes, it's a sales page for one of the products I got off RRW. Sent out the link and a pitch for it to my tiny CMH list yesterday. No sales yet.  :(  But, I was proud of myself for getting the site up, the PayPal button configured properly, and all that.

Now, I know I can improve the domain address.

Congratulations Brian. You should feel proud of yourself.

One nice thing about the RRW forum is that it is the right size for the personal touch. :::tu

Much better than similar forums

Jim

Mark

How about creating a folder within your main domain "fitnessforever.com" called "vitamins" then that index page should show up as fitnessforever.com/vitamins
I think it looks better than than a subdomain, but subdomains are great too I've got a few. You can go the subdomain route or the folder route, either way you don't pay for another domain.

doc333

That is a great idea.

I will give that one a whirl myself.

Thanks for sharing

Well, you know no conversation would be complete without me at least tossing in a couple words or two, so here goes.

I'm with doc333. I like the www.fitness.com/vitamins (domain example) better myself. i.e., the folders option. But that's just me. Maybe it's because that's how I first learned it.

Either way, though, you're making amazing progress, Brian, and you should be so proud of yourself.

Karen

Thanks everyone for your opinions and ideas. It is marvelous the rapidity of peoples' replies.

Am I right in thinking that, if I go the subdomain route that each subdomain can have a different 'look' to the homepage..i.e. different color scheme, different graphics etc.; something that may not be desirable in the folder option.

Also, are subdomains easier than folders to rank for in the SERPS? They seem to be stand alone URLs and thus easier to socially bookmark, link to via articles etc.

Thx

D

Hi valbpubs

you can design your sub domain anyway you like.

I believe the search engines prefer top level domains but to rank high you should consider some SEO
for your sub domain page i.e keywords, content and backlinks.

Doc

Completely agree. In fact you have almost preempted my next question in that i was going to ask:
Would it be better to bookmark, backlink, advertize the subdomains rather than the homepage?

I'd say put effort into both main site and sub domains, give yourself more chance of your product seen

Hi Stew,

I'll be happy to share a few of the RRW sites that I've uploaded to my domain ...

[...]

Hope that helps!
Mark

Hi Mark,

I am always afraid to use ready-made adsense sites, but I like it that RRW are not the ones I see everywhere, I've never seen them before, so I don't think they appear to be ready-made for visitors that come to the site. I feel more compelled to use them on my site.

Mark,

I was wondering who owned this domain (the-self-improvement-center.com) as I tried to get it... LOL Small World ain't it!

I am sure with all your wizardly powers you can come up with some magic and get a similar domain. ;D ;D ;D

Or offer to buy it off Mark. :dollar:

MaryAlberta here.  I had intended to write Mark asking about the hosting and websites, subdomains, etc. but decided to check the forum instead.  Well, lo and behold, I found just what I was looking for in this thread.

I am having a problem deciding on a domain name (neurologically challenged).  Have a couple of ideas but not sure about the professionalism or generality of them.  Is there a place on the forum where I can get "judgment passed" or offshoot ideas?

By the way, I have been on several forums in the past that were supposed to be helpful in my past endeavors, but this is by far the best I have experienced.

Hi Mary,

Welcome to RRW.

As Val says ^^^ above me, post your question in the thread where he gave the link.  It will help us see it better.

Great for you that you've got some ideas in mind.

Karen
