domain name - subdomain for PMC sites
« on: August 28, 2010, 06:39:16 AM »
Hi there

I have another question.
If I want to publish different PMC sites on the same domain, does it make more sense to create subdomains for it?

example:
mydomain.com
acaiberry.mydomain.com or mydomain.com/acaiberry

What is stronger from an SEO point of view?
To have the keyword in the subdomain or in the folder after the domain?
I would go for the subdomain but would also like to hear your thoughts.

thanks a lot
Fabian

Hi Fabian

Personally I would go for mydomain.com/acaiberry instead of acaiberry.mydomain.com

Subdomains and folders are more a question of personal choice.

I would suggest having a look at the 1st 10 search results in google for your key word and taking note of the URLs stated - see how many are subdomains and how many are folders.

That would give you an idea of which format does the best (admittedly it isn't the only factor in SEO but it is one of them)

Hi Fabian,
I too prefer this style: mydomain.com/acaiberry even though it has been said that sub-domains are stronger SEO wise, yeah it's a matter of personal preference I think.

thanks for your feedback.
I set up a subdomain for a test, the cool thing it works now both ways, like acaiberry.mydomain.com as well as with mydomain.com/acaiberry.
Does anybody know if this is good like that for SEO or should I decide for one of them?
I definitely need then to decide which one I want to promote on articles and so on.... but I'm just wondering about the fact if both together
are good or bad for SEO....

As with all things you do on the Net - TEST!

Promote each URL with a series of articles and see which ranks higher in the search engines - then you can make an informed choice

Unless things have changed, I never found that it made any difference which you use.
If the content is relevent, that's all that matters.
