New domain name for each PMC sites?
« on: April 27, 2009, 09:58:06 PM »
Just another dumb question from a newbie, do you get one domain name for each PMC site, for just lump them up into one domain and create sub pages / subdomains?

hi shadowdawn
you can if you want to, but you don't need to, you can create a folder in your main domain area and upload the pmc site there, it should look like this www.yourmaindomain/newpmcsite

it would be best if your main domain is related in some way to the pmc site

hi Jim,
suppose you have a main domain called www.bestforexadvice.com and your new pmc site is on weightloss

it would look like this: www.bestforexadvice.com/weightloss

not very professional looking it think, you want to be considered an expert in forex and you're giving weightloss advice? I don't think it would work well.

On the other hand if you have a domain called www.besthealthandfitnessever.com then your pmc site
would look like this  www.besthealthandfitnessever.com/weightloss

they are both related and there's more credibility

Thanks Darren for your explanation.

It makes perfect sense.

I was thinking in terms of a branded type website, such as bbc.co.uk

Our thoughts can take us in different directions easily. ;D ;D ;D

yeah, if you've got a branded/generic website then any niche would be ok, within reason. It depends on what your main domain is called and what it promotes

Shadowdawn, Jim and Brian,

Thanks for this really great discussion.

Since it seems like the best solution has already been given and discussed, I'll just say I agree with Brian's solution.

It really is better if PMC site names to coincide with the main domain name.  Particularly from a professional standpoint. And, because of that you really don't need a separate domain name for each PMC site.

And you'll save a bunch of bucks doubling up, too.  ;D

Hi all,

I'm not saying this is the answer however it's what I did.

I went to GoDaddy and registered a generic domain name (myname.com) I than set up a hosting account  with the server that Mark offers to gold members.

I now use (myname.com/thelatestpmcsitename) it seems to be working for me.

I'll admit I could use some help in making the sites appear a bit better as I am having a few problems in making them show up as I would like.

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated,

Frank

Hey Doc,

The main thing I would like to do is get rid of the autosponder sign up thing and replace it with a list of my other websites.

I removed the autoresponder text page from the includes folder thinking that would work however I just got a bunch of jibberish on my webpage.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Frank

Hi Frank,

Do this>

in your pmc site folder go to the includes file and open the autoresponder txt file (this should be blank now because you said you deleted the auto-responder txt)
In that text file enter:
Lets say you want to add 3 of your other sites:

enter:

<a href= "http://www.franks1stsite"target=_blank>FranksLinkText</ a>< br><a href= "http://www.franks2ndsite"target=_blank>FranksLinkText</ a>< br><a href= "http://www.franks3rdsite"target=_blank>FranksLinkText</ a>

Note:
(no space between "=" and "http")
(no space between "</" and "a>")
(no space between "<" and "br>")

Your sites should then show up under the Google Search box on the right hand side
like this:

FranksLinkText (for 1st site)
FranksLinkText (for 2nd site)
FranksLinkText (for 3rd site)

Let me know how you get on.

Did you delete the code       <?php include("includes/autoresponder.txt"); ?>   in the line where the autoresponder should be?

or did you delete the file autoresponder.txt (inside the "includes" folder)

Both would result in gibberish...

Just restore the autoresponder.txt file, delete all the text in the file, replace it with doc333 codes, make sure the       <?php include("includes/autoresponder.txt"); ?> is still there... And Voila, you have your related site links...  ;C

Hey shadowdawn and doc333

I deleted the file autoresponder.txt (inside the "includes" folder) ;;:B however I did save a backup before removing it so it was easy to follow both of your's instructions

Lets say you want to add 3 of your other sites:

enter:

<a href= "http://www.franks1stsite"target=_blank>FranksLinkText</ a>< br><a href= "http://www.franks2ndsite"target=_blank>FranksLinkText</ a>< br><a href= "http://www.franks3rdsite"target=_blank>FranksLinkText</ a>

Note:
(no space between "=" and "http")
(no space between "</" and "a>")
(no space between "<" and "br>")

Your sites should then show up under the Google Search box on the right hand side
like this:

FranksLinkText (for 1st site)
FranksLinkText (for 2nd site)
FranksLinkText (for 3rd site)

Docs advice worked well :::tu

autoresponder.txt can be copied from any of the PMC sites if you accidentally lose your copy on one site.
