Quickie Poll For PMC Sites: Ebay or No eBay?
« on: September 23, 2009, 09:35:45 AM »
Hi Guys,

Just a quick poll. Would you rather the PMC sites have eBay affiliate ads or not?

Thanks,
Mark

Wow! 50-50 (currently) I wouldn't have thought it would be that close. I personally like the ebay ads, but maybe we could replace them with Clickbank product ads instead? Or Amazon ads? What do you think fellowmembers?

Well,

I instead prefer ebay ads, because I have got revenue from ebay, and never a dime from amazon,
clickbank ads in this type of sites are not effective by my experiencies.

(I am using Profitmart base website in one of my domain, and seen this during last 3 years, thumbnile type clickbank ads do not sell)

Best regards!

Definitely NO to Amazon ads - the return on time is just not worth it what with the commission being so low.

Ebay - I'm on the fence with this one

How about Commission Junction or Paydotcom as alternatives?

I voted to not have eBay ads, but then that's primarily because I don't have an account with them and it was a real pain removing all references to them on each and every article, but it is doable if necessary.

I do like the idea of having links to other marketplaces like Commission Junction etc. I'm just getting started so haven't made anything off anyone as yet.

Thanks for listening Mark!

Mark

I seem to remember that at one stage we had the same sites with and without ebay ads.

Does my memory serve me well?

Looking at the 50/50 vote perhaps that may be the way to go.

I don't like eBay for some reasons. I also already worked for other affiliate web sites and find them better. So eBay is a no no for me.

Hi Guys,

Looks like from the feedback that I'm receiving here, by email, and by PM that the members are fairly split on this subject. So let me ask you a question:

Currently all you have to do is input your eBay affiliate id in the config file, and the eBay affiliate ads with your id shows up on the sites. How would you guys feel about having the ebay ads code put into a separate file? The sites would be structured so that they "pull" the eBay section into the page. Here's why I think this may be a good solution:

If you want to keep the eBay ads on your sites, you don't have to do anything but go to that 1 file and input your eBay affiliate id.

If you do not want the eBay affiliate ads then all you have to do is go to that 1 file and delete the contents.

I believe this is the best solution for keeping everyone happy. Your opinion?

Mark

As always Mark, common sense prevails.

This does seem to be the best solution (maybe I am biased since 40% of my income comes from EBAY). I do recognize that for some topics it could be more appropriate to offer products from other sources (PDC, CB, PJ, or CJ).

How about switching it up - have the off the shelf install default to no ebay ads. Then we could have a file that we can input the code for affiliate program of choice and then simply turn it on by updatting one file.

Just my 2 cents

I agree with you Mark.

You may upset some members by taking away the ebay feature of the PMC sites.  X::X

Sounds a good compromise Mark

Would it be backwards compatible or only available from a certain date onwards?

Mark,

I'll go along for the ride on this one...mostly because to date I'm not all that involved with the PMC sites. So I don't feel I can make as good a call as the others.

I appreciate the  fact that you've asked for our opinion and that you've considered what we've had to say.

Thanks,

Karen
