Setting up PMC on Wordpress
« on: September 23, 2010, 02:35:10 PM »
Hi there

I do have a domain where I want to publish several PMC sites, not only one.
How would I do that when I want to publish everything on Wordpress instead of the ones we can download?
I would have my domain like www.mydomain.com/acaiberry and www.mydomain.com/3D as example.
How do I need to set up wordpress to have a short introduction on the root mydomain.com and then link to
the several projects?
Would acaiberry be a page or post? How about the other pages which belong to the acaiberry?
What would be a good theme for that?

Sorry, many questions about WP, I'm still learning about this stuff.
thanks a lot
Fabian

Hi Fabian,

Wow lots of questions - that's good!  :::tu

Let's take them one-by-one...

Q: How would I do that when I want to publish everything on Wordpress instead of the ones we can download?
A: This is really a 2 part question and includes your last question. 1)You need to first decide on what theme you are going to use and how wide it is. For e.g. if you use a theme that is 960px and uses 2 sidebars of 160px and 140 px and your borders are 15px (page/post/theme) you will only have about a 600 px page/post area. What I would recommed, and I'm sure other might have other ideas on this is to use FlexSqueeze as as theme as it can be easily formatted to any need. Knowing this info you can then decide where to go next. 2) Use Wordpress (FlexSqueeze) with a static page showing the details and links to your other pages. You can either use WP to design these pages (e.g. 3D) and have the links on the static page point to them.

Q: How do I need to set up wordpress to have a short introduction on the root mydomain.com and then link to
the several projects?
A: See part 2 of the above question.

Q: Would acaiberry be a page or post? How about the other pages which belong to the acaiberry?
A: It could be either. I would recommend a post so you can add to it.

Q: What would be a good theme for that?
A: I would recommend FlexSqueeze mainly for it's easy formatting abilities.

I also want to point out that if you are going to have lots of pages for each PMC site then I would use the PMC's on subdomains (e.g. 3D.yourdomain.com), place a return to main button on the PMC sites which would return to the WP, and have WP point links to those pages through a static front page. This way you can do posts relating to those pages will will help your SEO ratings.

If you have more questions or if I just confused you more or if you need help, just PM me.

Good stuff Howard.

If you really want to use Wordpress, I suggest ditching the PMC site, as such, and using the same content that Mark provides as PLR articles. The articles come as text files and you could then use a plugin like Blog Post Automator (archives, Jan 2010) to post them into Wordpress in the appropriate category.

Then you could have acaiberry and 3D as categories under WP and with the permalinks set to "/%category%/%postname%/" or something similar that will pull them all together under each directory/category automagically. Then you can use a specific page as the front page (that's in the settings too, I'd have to look for it specifically to tell you where) with whatever text/links you'd like.

The advantage of using WP for all of it is that it makes things simple to edit and maintain.
The disadvantage of using WP instead of the PMC site as it stands is that you'll have to do the monetization "by hand" -- adding it to your WP theme layout and/or widgets.

Many themes are ready to add adsense blocks to and it's easy enough to add a sidebar widget that shows other offers. This, of course, is different than the mentality of dropping the PMC files and having a ready made site. However, once you set up the monetization, it's done and all you do is add the content and keep moving.

I may have gone off down a tangent, but that's my thoughts on WP+PMC sites. ;)
HTH!

Hi guys

Thanks a lot for your suggestions.
I will try out some of that to see if I understood all of the advice :-)

Otherwise I come back again...

Oh cool, Wayne and Howard and John,

Thank you for your suggestions for Fabian.

I especially like the idea of just using the articles with WP in place of the actual PMC sites.  I'm currently using a WP blog (to make posts) and then have added a "page" to the WP where I have linked from posts to the specific PMC site.  (For one reason or another, I haven't kept it up since the first of the year, though.)

Now, I'm thinking it might be good to resurrect it with the "articles" addition in mind.

So thanks again.

Karen
