that automates it (or part of it) is an insane job and takes an awful
amount of time.

Directory submitting software can be found for free on the Net, just
Google it... If you don't want to spend time searching for it, you can
download "Directory Buzz" for free at

 http://partnershoppe.com/subm.html (no signup required).

"Directory Buzz" contains over 200 directories you can submit your site to.
