Goal Setting
« on: September 24, 2010, 07:49:51 AM »
I have seen numerous posts in our super-duper forum relating to:  How do I do this ; or How do I do that, when it comes to the basics of Internet Marketing.

I have thought long and hard on this subject and decided I would provide the first step toward Internet Marketing as a whole. 99% of all good marketers start with this initial step, and Stick To It..

So without further delay here is my thoughts on Step 1 of Basic Internet Marketing. I'll call it IM101 - Goal Setting.

This is where goal setting comes in, yes I know yawn yawn not another one, but how many of you out there actually do this? A few maybe at most. For those intelligent enough to do this, check your goal list now and see how many you have obtained without actually trying???

For those who have not started settings goals I really suggest that you take this seriously it works, what do you have to loose? Nothing. What do you have to gain? Everything you ever wanted in life. If that is not good enough reason to take action then I do not know what is to be honest with you.

It is your choice no one else's, you cannot blame anyone else for your shortfalls whatever they are, NO ONE!!!

The idea of writing things down makes the idea more concrete in your mind. It actually tells the subconscious mind that you are really serious about this. When this happens your subconscious mind will go about to make it happen. Sounds to easy I know but it is true nevertheless.

Therefore start your goal list with what you want to achieve in life. Then write how you are going to achieve it. Start with your dream and if you do not have a dream by now you are going around in limbo land. Think about what you really want to achieve.

Next write down the steps required to make that dream a reality. Work backwards in how you will make this dream a reality. This way if you break the dream down to byte size pieces you can then understand how to do this. If you present this huge task to your mind without it being broken down into small manageable stages, then the prospect of you then completing the required outcome are slim to say the least.

Example…

I want to be fabulously rich and I have a business that I want to grow, but how am I going to get there? If your answer is blank, nothing, zilch then in 10 years time it will still be nothing.

You must write down now what you are prepared to do to put yourself out of the comfort zone and start today to make what you want a reality.

How and where do I start?

Get a sheet of A4 paper and write down what you want to achieve in the next 12 months 5 long term and 5 short term You may be surprised at what you write down and it makes you realize what you really want out of life.

Your list could be...

Money... Have $50,000 in your bank account by the end of the year
Lifestyle... sailing around the Caribbean in a beautiful motor cruiser
Relationships.... meet the perfect partner
Success.... gain great success in your business

It does not matter what it is write it down!

Then write down what you can today to make that goal seem a little bit closer. The important things to remember are you will not achieve what you want over night but if you write it down into byte size pieces that your mind can understand, it can then be put into action. Do you get where I am coming from here? Because it is vitally important that you do.

I suggest that make some goals big projects then break them down to what you can do this month, this week and then today to make it start to happen. I could go on about the importance of this all day but please write it down!! For a person to miss out willfully on the advantages of making goals there must be a psychological block somewhere.

A good exercise that you can do to get your mind literally flowing with ideas is a mind mapping session. This is similar to a brainstorming session except that there is only you..

Before you dismiss the prospect of actually doing this mind mapping session think about this. If you want to be creative you must first start to think at a creative level. To do this you must get your mind to start to think creatively, it will not do it on its own. Once you start this process your mind begins to realize what you want from it. You will then begin to make better decisions and more opportunities will start to come your way.

If you fail to do the exercise and carry on doing what you always done before you will always end up with the same results. Is this what you want to do? I really do not think so. The whole point of the introduction of this book is for one reason only, to get you to take action and think in different way, this is the only way to go forward.

Do this right now...

Ok, so get a piece of paper, A4 will do. Then just for example, write in the middle of the paper something that interests you, it could be sport.

Draw a line from the center of your paper where you have written sport. Such as marketing on one corner, types of sport in another corner, equipment and leisure in the other 2 corners until you have the four corners completed.

As you do this below each topic in each corner begin to sub paragraph other things that begin to come into your mind in relation to each topic. Very soon you will have a page full of ideas that was blank a very short time ago. Spend approx 30 minutes doing this exercise.

This system works and I use it myself regularly to gain new ideas for moving myself forward with the sites I own. In fact, MyPLRGiveaway and the new site I am working on (Shh.. It's a secret if I tell you well I'd have to..) websites where created using this formula. All my next projects are created using this technique.

Now for you to take YOUR life and put it into this context again start at the middle and think of what it is important to you right now. Then as you sub paragraph the things that you can do to realize what you want out of this onetime deal it will start to fall into place.

This system works and I know it requires almost 30 minutes of your time but where do you really want to end up in say 10 years time? Still doing what you are doing now in some crummy job that you know a well trained monkey could do. Or, are you going to do something different and take "action" and eventually start to take control of your life.

Settings your goals are one thing but the inability to take action to make what you want materialize is another. It will not be handed to you on plate make no mistake about that. BUT it will begin to change your life in a direction that you could not have imagined. Simply by doing something. So write it down and take notes.

I will give you a few examples of ordinary people who have transformed their lives by TAKING ACTION..

Real Life Examples....

I am sure you have heard of the Harry Potter books but did you know that the creator 34 year old Joanne Rowling was an unemployed welfare mother? She decided to write an adventure storybook based on a young boy who lived in a land of wizardry and fairy tales.

Joanne would never have thought that her books, and she had only written 3 would take her to world stardom. Her wealth is estimated around £14,000,000 that would equate to approx $20,000,000 not bad for an idea waiting to be put into action. She also had no money before hand and had to write everything on an old typewriter. What a lucky break she got, I don't think so!

How about the creators of hotmail? A free web based email service that got $400,000,000 from Bill Gates back pocket, for an idea?

I should point that if your only focus is to make money then you are on the wrong direction. The first thing you should aim at is finding a "solution" to people's needs, wants, desires or whatever it is you call them. When you do this you will then become successful. If you are successful at providing this solution the money will follow as sure as night follows day.

If you have no experience of programming or web design work do not worry, that is what other people are for. Concentrate on what YOU do best and get other people around you that can do this work for you. Sound too simple? It is.

Always get others to do something better than you can do yourself. This way it leaves you free to use your own creative ability to do what YOU DO BEST. You cannot be all things to all people so do not try. I think this is where many people go wrong in that they are "Afraid" to make that move and bring others into their business.

The thought of failure also impedes that success from happening. If you think you will fail you will. For the case in question, what does it really matter if you do fail at your first venture? It does not…. Thomas Edison, our creator of the electric light bulb tested over 10,000 times before he got the correct filament to work. That is dedication no matter what way you look at it. If he had given up there and then the power supply of the world may not be as far advanced as it is today. Who knows? But dedication is what YOU need to succeed.

The point I am making here is you only have to do it to make it a reality.

I want to talk briefly about Visualization

The importance of visualization is something that you should really spend some time practicing. If you cannot see clearly how you can achieve something or how you would like your life to be in 10 years time, practice. You really need to spend time thinking about this.

Don't tell me you do not know how to visualize. If I ask not to think of a pink elephant then you will automatically think of a pink elephant, easily! It is only a pink elephant but the clearer you can visualize this image to appear in your minds eye the quicker you can make things happen in your real life for you own goals and needs.

Picture yourself in full color living the life you deserve. So if you can see yourself on a luxurious boat sailing the Caribbean with beautiful people around you and wealth abounds you, go for it. Or maybe walking down a beautiful tropical beach, the sun is overhead and you have not a worry in the entire world. You know your business is making you money while you enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Picture how you would like to be in 10 years time. Financially, emotionally and in any other way that is important to you. Then put it into ACTION.

P.S. Write It Down..

Thanks H

Goal Setting is something I just don't do - I've no idea why.

I think it's something I'm really going to have to look at closely
