One
A small number.
Perhaps you're thinking: "I'm just one person; insignificant. Nothing I do or try to do could possibly matter in the scheme of things"
Yet one CAN be powerful.
Even powerful enough to change the world!
...Don't believe me?
How about Thomas Edison?
One man. Yet from this one man arose countless devices that we couldn't imagine what life would be like without them.
Nicola Tesla
Brilliant and bold enough to challenge Edison and gave us Alternating Current with his induction motor; providing a far more effecient method of distributing electrical power over long distances and on a mass scale.
Leonardo da Vinci
Helicopters, bridges, submarines, you name it; he designed it, and modern engineers study his designs for inspiration.
Neil Armstrong
Like he said, "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
On the flip side...
Adolph Hitler
One man. A man with an insatiable thirst for power and domination.
Millions of lives destroyed and unfathomable suffering endured because of...
one...
...man.
Ronald Reagan
He didn't request. He ORDERED Gorbachov to "Tear down this wall!"
Geniuses perhaps? Perhaps, but it's not their intellect that enabled them.
John Walsh
You may see him as simply another celebrity on television hosting a fantastic show that helps law enforcement track down and prosecute criminals.
This likely wasn't the plan he had for his life at the outset.
No, he was a typical American. Happily managing a few hotels in his hometown in Florida. That is until one day his son Adam was abducted, tortured, and murdered. John's life course changed forever that day; and so did the criminal justice system.
He and his wife Revé took their grief and rage and turned them into enormously powerful forces for positive change!
Among their accomplishments are...
*Founding a local organization which would grow to become the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
*Standing his ground against opposition, succeeded in persuading lawmakers to forge the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act, which became a law in 2006 when President George W. Bush signed the Bill.
*We now have Code Adam and the Amber Alert to alert store clerks, police, and the public to be on the lookout for missing or exploited children.
*And, a television show that has led to over a thousand arrests and the return of 50 missing children.
How about Rosa Parks
A simple working woman, tired from a hard day's work, lugging a heavy bag of groceries...
REFUSED to give up her seat to a man who thought he was better than she.
Her civil disobedience set in motion a wave of change that to this day; hasn't seen it's end yet!
To quote her: "My message to the world is that we must come together and live as one."
You see, it doesn't always require a genius to make a difference; but it does take courage. And, the ability to see within oneself the power they posess; hopefully for the good.
These are just a small handful of examples. There are many, many more individuals who have done extraordinary things with their seemingly ordinary abilities.
And just as one man, or one woman can accomplish so much; just think what the combined efforts or many with a common goal can do.
So, take your talents, your knowledge, your experience, your courage; and start making your own contributions.
Whether they be for yourself, your family, your community, or your planet. KNOW that you have the power to accomplish amazing feats!
