Wayne you are so right! Itís time to look elsewhere

The reason I looked at parabots was because it looked like a high quality marketing
tool with lots of features and also free I love free! lol
he admin panel is very pleasing to the eye and easy to operate,
If I could have got if fully working I would have defiantly kept it.

I am not expecting to build huge lists,
just small ones for different niches whenever I wanted to
thatís why at the moment I donít want to go for the monthly paid option
like trafficwave etc.

I will leave it installed for now in case a remedy comes up that fixes it.
I was also trying out Roller Hosting to see if ran scripts ok
and basically test run the hosting as it is only $5 month
for unlimited this unlimited that,
parabots is the only one I have had trouble with up to now.

Parabots looked too good to give up on,
thatís why I spent so much time trying to iron out the problems,
I have now downloaded  MediaAutoresponder from the members area
and I also have php responder
I will try both of these and see what they are like.

Thank you Mark & Wayne
for taking the time out to help me with parabots it was most appreciated.

Onwards n upwards!

Brian

I think you're making the right choice Brian. One FYI ... MediaSponder has issues as well BUT at least the source code is included.

If you let me know your requirements I'll try to make a recommendation and I always recommend free options first but can't guarantee there is a free option that meets your needs.

Thank you Mike,

It is now a mission to find out what is wrong
And now I think it might be the hosting!
I looks like the cron jobs cannot read the php file
You cannot see the code in parabots but I tried infinite responder
Another that is free!
At least infinite gives you the path for the cron job.

After setting up infinite the cron job report said
ďPermission deniedĒ so I altered the permission on
the file to 777 the file is sendmails.php

the cron runs every 5 minutes for now

after altering the permissions this is what the report says

home3/fromlitt/public_html/infinite/sendmails.php: line 1: ?php: No such file or directory
/home3/fromlitt/public_html/infinite/sendmails.php: line 7: syntax error near unexpected token `'config.php''
/home3/fromlitt/public_html/infinite/sendmails.php: line 7: `include_once('config.php');'

I could edit the sendmails.php file but have no idea what to edit

Now I am wondering if I should drop Roller Hosting and try another.

One of my favorites for hosting is Fatcow. (I've usually got a coupon for less than $5/mth for the unlimited account, PM me if you want it.)
I've only had one script not run "out of the box" there and I was too lazy to figure out the issue so I put it on another hosting/domain.
I could probably even test parabots before you signed up if you'd like.

The error message sounds like you left out the "php" or "/usr/bin/php" part at the beginning of the cron job and just have the path to the script in there. Double check that is correct and I'll bet the ?php error goes away.

(Debugging tip: Always solve the first error first and many of the others are often resolved too!)

Hi Brian,
You might want to consider changing hosts. Regardless of what support has told you in the past I believe they are the root of some (if not all) of your issues.

My reasoning is based on the outcome I had with Parabots ... granted that script has other issues but the followup sending wasn't one for me.

Now you're having a similar issue with IR ... this is one I already had on one of my boxes. I only use it as a tool for generating subscription forms I can mod and use with Subscription Router.

I went in and finished the installation with regard to the cron then tested it. It worked perfectly.

BTW, what happens if you initiate the sendmail manually? You'll find that under "Tools" in the admin area.

I'm only guessing here but I think that host has a restriction in place that kills script generated emails as this can be used by spammers. Remember ... that is an educated guess, I don't know for sure.

FYI ... you might find this useful: http://www.infiniteresponder.needaforum.com/index.php

Hi Gents,
Be aware that Parabots has additional issues that Brian hadn't gotten to yet. Sadly, the code is encrypted as the fix is probably pretty simple.

IMHO that speaks volumes. I'm leaning toward a host issue even more. By chance did you try the wget method for the cron? Just change the command to ...

wget http://yourdomain.tld/ir_dir/sendmails.php

All of my boxes except one are at LiquidWeb the other is at Hostgator. I have absolutely no issues with the LW boxes but they are dedicated servers and I have 100% control over them.

The Hostgator account is a VPS which is a semi-dedicated box meaning there are several VPS' on one physical server. It's pretty cheap ... $24.95 but does have some restrictions. Nothing big mind you but restrictions none the less. There I have had a couple scripts not work properly but for the most part it's been fine. Support is pretty good about opening up things for you but I didn't try asking them for assistance with the scripts I had problems with ... I just installed them on my dedicated box.

Cool ... maybe you can salvage this project without moving the hosting.

Good thinking to point this out Brian.
Fatcow accepts paypal, but charges by the year. May still be an option since the web hosting coupon I have gets you in at $44/year you buy up front. (Then it's $88/yr.)

If you still want me to check parabots on their server, let me know.

That's a good deal, Wayne

They're a stable company?

I need to set up another hosting account for some testing I want to do. I was going to use Hostgator, but this looks good.

Wayne, Does that hosting have CPanel? I can't see it mentioned on the features page.
