Looking for someone well versed in Wordpress Templates
« on: March 22, 2011, 08:47:40 PM »
Hello Everyone

I'm back with some more questions.

I am studying the process of building Wordpress pages, but I am not confident yet about changing another person's work to fit my needs.

I need to change a Wordpress Template 2 column index page to full width lead capture page.

What do I have to do to remove sidebar?

How many documents do I have to change?

What would be the proper name for a lead capture page as for as indexing goes. I would like to promote the lead capture page on the search engines.

Thanks for the help and responses.

There are a couple ways to set the look of just a single page/post, a whole category, or even the home page.
It all depends on the theme and how they've built it.
What theme are you starting with?

You might be able to use the index.php and remove the sidebar references to create a theme file for just that page.
Or you could create a page template to reuse throughout the site or even across sites.
Or you could see whether a plugin like the Magic Template in the Gold area might do well enough.

And when you decide your time is too valuable to spend diving into the internals of WP themes, let me know.
I've been hired to do some theme/template work for folks here at RRW before.

Good luck!

Hello Wayne, :)

The name of the template is "theartist" can be found at: http://www.mywordpressthemesite.com/

WordPress theme with three-columns, two-columns, threaded-comments, fixed-width, right-sidebar, multiple widget-ready placement, easy to customize.

My desire is to keep the theme constant through out the whole site with just a few custom alterations. The page floats on top of the background and the effect is interesting.

Thanks for the feedback and for the offer to help. I might consider offer down the line but for now I would like to endeavor to learn this.

Glancing at that theme, you'll want to make a copy of page.php to another filename, add the page template header, and remove the sidebar line.

Code: [Select]
<?php get_sidebar(); ?>
Then you can use it as the template for any pages on the site.
