How to set up WP Optimizer?
« on: February 16, 2011, 03:28:18 PM »
I thought it was a plugin, but it doesn't show up after I put it in the plugin folder. The sales page doesn't really say, and the instructions say to add your username and password to a file and then delete it after you get set up. But it doesn't say what name and pw - the ones from Wordpress? Something you get when you buy it from the dev?

Is it maybe a stand alone program that somehow integrates with your blog? Has anyone tried it and has it working?

Thanks, Crash

Hi Crash,

Welcome to the forum! I personally have not used WP Optimizer yet but it looks to me like you upload the contents of the WP Optimizer folder (app, src, add, help, index, mange, publish) to your host. Then navigate to *website.com*/app/user/new.php and enter your chosen username and password. Next, login at *website.com*/index.php

Hope that helps,
Mark

Hi guys,

Has anyone installed this script and have it fully working? For me it does everything except download the actual zip file - all it does is download a "file" type file with the first word of the website title as the file name. I then have to manully rename this file to filename.zip in order to extract it for use.

I've checked in the pages folder and the created template is there, checked in the output folder and the zip file is there - I guess I can always grab the zip file via an FTP but this defeats the purpose of the script in creating and downloading. One could also simply download the template directly from the pages folder and re-upload in to the theme.

In brainstorming with myself as I always do - I came with an idea of having a plugin that would grab the zip file and unzip it in the current theme. Will see how that idea pans out yet but if anyone has a solution to the above problem I would very much appreciate it :)

Cheers,
Zulf

You are welcome Karen and thanks for the encouraging words :)

In the meantime I think I have come up with an interim solution where we can actually use the script within Wordpress without the need to creat a user name and password - I think this is better than having it as a stand alone since there can only be one Admin user for the script in that format.

The solution: I've ported the script in to a plugin that uses the <object> call to render the script as a page in the admin dashboard where you can then create, edit and save your templates. In order to get around the issue with the non-zip download I managed to find a plugin that an excellent job of moving files around your Wordpress installation - to be honest, I think its pretty awesome :) - I used the wp-elfinder plugin to grab the files from the scripts' pages folder and directly drop them in the current theme folder (Important: use the copy paste facility instead of the move funtion so that you retain a copy of the template in the pages forlder just incase).

I have also found a couple of bugs with the script - it renders the optin form irrespective of your selection and it fails to render the background image for any given template. The workaround for this is to go into your theme editor and make the adjustments before using the template - anyone with coding skills who can give a solution to these bugs will be appreciated.

Here's the deal: I am going to release the plugin (my own plugin + the script ready edited to work with the plugin files) in the near future as I want to make sure at least 90% of it is fully functional. This is where you come in - I am looking for a few people to test the plugin out and give feedback so that collectivelly we can get there. In return when I release the plugin you have access to it a not charge :).

So if you are interested please raise your hand and I'll get a copy sent to you - I am looking for about 5 people for this offer, but if more than needed hands are shown then I'll as Mark if he can include the plugin in the download area.

2 points I must make clear though: 1) You have personal use rights only, and 2) You must understand that there are some bugs that need ironing out.

Cheers,
Zulf

I would like to use the Conversion Optimizer tool provided by Adwords, and this is only possible if you implement the adwords conversion tracking code,it seems.WP Optimizer gives you the software to create your marketing pages for your blogs instantly and effectively.
