PHP is one pain in the neck to work with if you want to edit pages.

Hi everyone,

Yes it is pain if you don't know the basics of PHP,

One method is change extension as .htm or html in your computer and use wysiwyg html editor
but there is always danger to corrupt PHP file if you do not know how to do it (that is if you are not familiar with the code itself to make manual corrections)

Just only html parts of the PHP can be edited with wysiwyg editors, PHP itself must edit manually with notepad or with PHP editor software.

I'm working on web site that use PHP. So far, I can only view the PHP pages online. That means that every time I make a change, I have to upload the files involved and then view them. I'd work so much more smoothly if I could see the results of my changes OFFLINE and not have to keep uploading files. So how do I work on PHP pages offline? I have php5 and apache2 installed. I'm using antiX Linux (which is based on Debian-derived MEPIS).

This post is definitely new info for moi.
I'd been manually editing with Notepad++
(because it has a multiple undo function)
then uploading and seeing what damage
I did.

Had no idea about this option.

And if you're on a Mac...

Use Apache and PHP that is included with the normal install of Mac OSX 10.5 and just needs to be enabled:

Use MAMP, which contains an easy install of Apache, MsSQL and PHP and bypasses a lot of steps in the above method:

I've been thinking of installing a local server for testing, so this thread inspired me to give one of these methods a try.

You would need to install php and apache on your personal computer.Its very easy to install and it works pretty well.Thanks for the very helpful & informative post!

I just strip the PHP tags at the beginning & end, save as an HTML file, and load it in the browser 

Most of the time it works, sometimes it don't--it depends on the dependency of the intermingled code.

The member was referring to the 31 monthly custom niche sites in the Gold Members area. Those sites are composed of php pages, and he wanted to be able to view the php pages on his PC before he uploaded them to his server. As you know you can click on a html page on your pc (before it's uploaded) and it will load in your browser.
