Masking An Affiliate Link With A Domain Name
« on: February 22, 2016, 02:00:00 PM »
Would like to purchase a Domain Name that will redirect
to an affiliate link, because I don't want to see the affiliate link
with my ID in the browser when someone clicks on the
Domain so would like to mask which would eliminate this
from happening.  When the domain is clicked on, that's
what you'll see in the browser and not the redirect link
showing the affiliate link.

Question:  If the affiliate product that I'm promoting is
ordered by a customer, will the company still be able to
see my affiliate link to get credit and commission.

Look forward to your helpful response(s)

Yes.  Your affiliate id will appear when someone clicks on your link.  You can test it out yourself by clicking on your own link....your affiliate id should appear at the bottom of the form just before you pay.  DO NOT BUY THROUGH YOUR OWN LINK! (sorry had to put that in there...some people will do that.)

Thanks for the feedback Jerome.  I just registered a domain
and forwarded it to the affiliate url with a mask so you only
see the registered domain in the web browsers address bar
and not the affiliate url with my id.  Tested in the order form
and my affiliate id was there to get credit.

congrats!  Been doing that very same thing for about 3 years now.  My reason for doing it is different than yours.  I create software with affiliate links in it.   Software that has gotten into the hands of thousands of people.  I control where the affiliate links go using my redirect domain.  So I can still make money in those various niches when affiliate products change. #worksmarternotharder

How does one 'mask' a domain?

Not sure what you mean.   The intent of this thread was about masking affiliate links to reduce the chance of affiliate commissions being stolen.

Why would you want to mask a domain?

Welcome to the forum!  This video shows you how:

A simpler solution would be to use a redirect page this will have your domain as the url. you then use this link as the link they click. It goes to that page then redirects to the affiliate link. These are good for tracking links as you can use different redirect pages going to the same affiliate link so you can see which links are working for you.

you can also use a script like I do I have two one is MySQL based and the other is not they are similar to the tinyurl sites.

eGraphic Designer create sales page graphics while on line. http://geoffreyfoggon.com/egraphic-designer/
