Backup Buddy WP - Importer PHP help
« on: March 27, 2011, 02:36:35 PM »
Anyone???? Bueller???

I've run backup buddy and uploaded the zip file and the importer.php script (all for a server migration for a WP blog) to the new host.

All instructions then say "navigate to the importer.php file and follow the steps in the wizard." Ha Ha. ROFC (rolling on floor crying).

I can navigate to the php file all day long but I don't know how to do anything with it or get it to run. I feel like I'm standing in the flames of tech hell with just one final step to nirvana (!!!) but I don't know how to step.

(Best analogy I could come up with...I've been dealing with this all weekend now. I'm stubborn enough to be determined to do it my self but I really need an assist.)

Anyone?? -- MM

Hello Magic Man,

Did you get your site migrated?

To get the importer to run type yourdomainname.com/importer.php in the address bar?

You did not mention it but were you able to create your database and user in cPanel?

I hope this helps.

No, it is not migrated yet. Thank you for the response. I won't be able to try that for about 8 hours.

The new cPanel setup seems to be OK. Just need to run this script (or so the instructions say) to get everything in order. I'll be back online here in about 8 hours and will let you know. Thanks. -MM

ladya beat me to the answer. I've used Backup Buddy and his advice should work.

When I put in that address (with my own domain name), It takes me to a public page on the blog with a 404 error.  I'm stuck.

That's part of your problem: you don't want WP already installed on the new site, the importer will install the blog from the files in the backup.

PM sent.
Give me a little more detail and/or the link and we'll get you sorted!
