What's A Good Mic for Recording Audio/

Hey gang,

I'm looking to buy an inexpensive - but good quality of course - microphone to add spoken dialogue to my videos. Any suggestions?

What do you consider ''inexpensive''?

Most USB headset mics will be decent enough to get your voiceovers done.

I hear good things about the Snowball mics from Blue.

I have a stand-alone recorder that can also be used as a USB mic. It has super hot mics built-in (like picking up the air moving through the vents in a ''silent'' room!) that can also be run with the gain turned down so far I have to have my lips touching the windscreen to be heard. I've used it quite successfully in that low gain mode for recording my last few audio products. Mind you, it cost about 150 bucks when I bought it two years ago.

I have had a few and they all seem to work the same no matter the cost.
But just wondered if you are using a home PC and not a lap top have you thought about a webcam?
That way you get two for the price of one as most have built in mics, then in the future you might want to make videos of yourself promoting a product.
webcams are fairly cheap these days, just a thought tho.

I'd be using a home PC. I'll look into the webcam thing. I hadn't thought of that. Wayne..inexpensive to me is $20.

Hi MM,
The webcam suggestion is a good one. I picked up an OEM HP USB webcam a while back for about $25 on eBay and the mic is excellent. Prior to that I tried several usb mics all under $20 and the ones that worked best had "omni-directional" as a listed feature. Please understand this info is several years old so newer options may be better. Haven't had to deal with it since getting the HP webcam.
