Hi John and welcome to the forum family!
The best place to start is
W3Schools
It's not overwhelming, the tutorials are "bite-sized" and there are "try it yourself editor" labs for hand-on learning.
...you can earn free certificates for passing the exams too.

oops, sorry about that--the learning is free but the certificates aren't.
