Paypal Issue With Your Subscriptions
« on: October 25, 2009, 12:33:17 PM »
Hi Guys,

At least once or twice a week, I get an email from an upset Gold member wanting to know why I canceled their Gold membership. So I let them know that I didn't cancel their subscription - Paypal did. Since this is a fairly common occurrence, I thought I would post about this here.

Be aware that making financial changes to your PayPal account such as updating your credit card or banking information will cause Paypal to cancel ALL of your monthly membership subscriptions ... including your subscription for your RRW Gold membership.

Also, if your credit card on file with Paypal expires then PayPal will cancel all of your subscriptions.

This is a very strange feature of Paypal that I have no control over ... nor can I reinstate your Paypal subscription for you. If this happens to you, to reinstate your RRW Gold subscription with Paypal just log into your RRW free membership and click on the upgrade tab for the $1 trial offer:

Here’s an important tip that I've learned about Paypal:

If you have to replace a credit card on Paypal, first add your new card and then make sure that you change all of your subscriptions over to the new card before you delete the old card. That way your subscriptions won't be canceled.

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Thank you for this information re: PayPal and our subscriptions.

It seems there are so many things (not just with PayPal) that can change settings and such that I don't (or often) think about.

Now, I'd better go check PayPal.

Good post.

Everybody has a card registered on PayPal.

All, if not all cards, expire at some time.

There is an option with PayPal to give your bank details.

This is a way around this frustrating problem with cc cards.

Hello,
That is great information to know about Paypal and subscription related issues.  Would you ever consider offering AlertPay as an alternate payment option?
I ask because many of us have AlertPay accounts (similar to Pro accts at paypal) but do not see that as an option.

Just thought I'd ask, who knows maybe one day?   ;C  :::tu

Thank you so much

This "interesting" PayPal feature has been a PAIN IN THE BUTT to me on several occasions so I'll be sure to use your tip of changing over the subscriptions before canceling the old card.
Thanks for that very helpful tip, Mark!

I have had a different problem with my subscription.  PayPal paid my subscription two days ago but my gold membership is not available.  I did the 1.00 upgrade and ended up with TWO RRW subscriptions on my list and still do not have access to the gold membership area.  I am very frustrated as I need some WordPress downloads.

I was aware of the fact, that why monthly subscriptions get cancelled automatically, but wasnt having any idea about the tip.
Thats actually a logical idea, which we should have thought earlier. ;)

thanks for the tip.

Regardless of how many times you log into your PayPal account, I suggest you keep, some where in your private papers, every thing you need as back-up copy for your PayPal account.  This way, should you ever need to access PayPal, and forgot how, (like after your computer crashed, and you had to replace it), you have access to what you need to get back into your account.
As to the idea of changing your credit/debit card numbers; for every place you use those cards, if you are changing cards, or one card goes down; by notifying the sites/places you use those cards at, of this fact, and then changing the card numbers; you can then go ahead and change your old numbers at PayPal, replacing them with new numbers.
What I do, is list the new numbers first, and then tell PayPal that the new number is "xxxx".  Then I wait as much as two weeks before going back and deleting the old number from the records.  Usually, by that time, PayPal will have gotten used to you using the new number, and they won't squawk when you delete the old number.
